Myrtle Beach 2011

The 2011 Thomas Family Reunion Will be held in Myrtle Beach, SC! This will be the 4th bi-annual full week Thomas Family Reunion. The 2011 event will have a new location, new events and hopefully even more fun! This will be the 2nd reunion on the beach as we were in Daytona Beach in 2009. Just like the past reunions, we will have a number of family events including games, food, get-togethers, as well as the opportunity to do things on your own.

Birthplace of Wheel of Fortune star Vanna White, MYRTLE BEACH is a brazen splurge of seaside fun, an unmitigated stretch of commercial development twenty miles down the coast from the North Carolina border at the center of the sixty-mile "Grand Strand." Predominantly a family resort, it's packed fit to burst during mid-term vacations with leering, jeering students in fluorescent beachwear – if you've seen the movie Shag, you'll know what to expect. Fans of crazy golf, water parks, factory outlet malls, funfairs and parasailing will be in heaven, and the beach itself isn't bad. The widest stretch is at North Myrtle Beach, a chain of small communities among which Ocean Drive is the center and Atlantic Beach is exclusively used by African Americans.

South of Myrtle Beach lie Murells Inlet, a fishing port with lots of good fish restaurants, and Pawleys Island, a secluded resort once favored by plantation-owners and today retaining a far slower pace than its neighbors. Between the two on Hwy-17 is the beautifully landscaped Brookgreen Gardens (summer daily 9.30am–9.30pm; rest of the year 9.30am–5pm; $8.50; tel 1-800/849-1931), a former rice and indigo plantation with an outdoor display of American figurative sculpture, and the setting for many of Julia Peterkin's novels of gullah life. There's also a wildlife sanctuary, where you're likely to spot alligator and deer, and an hour-and-a-half boat tour around the area.

The family reunion will be headquartered at the Wyndham SeaWatch Plantation Resort.

Since it was not feasible to acquire all our units at this resort we will be staying at multiple resorts. The other resorts will be added as they are reserved.

Wyndham SeaWatch Plantation is wonderfully located just steps from the beach on a private boardwalk in exciting and beautiful Myrtle Beach. The resort features two indoor pools, five outdoor pools, a lazy river, 11 hot tubs, and an activities program.

With everything from the Atlantic Ocean to nearly 100 championship golf courses virtually at your doorstep, there's no end to the fun. The area offers art galleries, concert facilities, live theater, restaurants, and shopping. Driving Directions
From Route 501, take SC22 East towards North Myrtle Beach. At the end of SC22 East, take the Kings Road Exit. At the bottom of the exit ramp, make a right turn onto Kings Road. Go approximately 1 mile to the blinking yellow light and turn left on to Lakeshore Drive, towards the ocean. Follow the road around the curve. Wyndham SeaWatch Plantation will be on your left. Upon entering the property turn right after the circle drive and follow signs to registration. Call the resort for alternate directions.

Treat yourself to a beachside getaway at Fairfield Wyndham Westwinds. This is the second resort we will be staying at. This resort is about 10 minutes from the Wyndham SeaWatch Plantation Resort. With everything from an Atlantic Ocean beach to nearly 100 championship golf courses virtually at your doorstep, there's no end to the fun. Swim, sun, enjoy your favorite recreational pastimes, and visit local attractions, such as Brookgreen Gardens, Barefoot Landing, Broadway at the Beach, Fantasy Harbour, or the Myrtle Beach Pavilion. Sensational seafood and lots of great music theater entertainment make for perfect evenings. Kids will love the hundreds of amusement rides, and shoppers will enjoy over a dozen outlet malls in the area. Unit amenities are numerous, with private balconies overlooking the ocean. Units will be added as required to accommodate everyone attending. I will try to get as many units at SeaWatch as possible but it may be necessary to acquire other resorts. The people who pay first get first dibs as to what resort and unit they will be staying in. It is very important to pay for your unit as soon as feasible as it will be very difficult to get multiple units. Myrtle Beach is very popular in the summer so pay early!
