Daytona Beach, FL Thomas Family Vacation!

The 2009 Thomas Family Reunion Will be held in Dayton Beach! This will be the third bi-annual full week Thomas Family Reunion. The 2009 event will have a new location, new events and hopefully even more fun! Given the hot summer sun in the South, it is time we had a reunion on the beach.. Just like the past reunions, we will have a number of family events including games, food, get-togethers, as well as the opportunity to do things on your own. Some family members may want  to do a daytrip to Disney World during this trip since Orlando is only an hour or so away from Daytona Beach; so information on Disney will be added from time to time. As always, this is a Thomas Family vacation but all members of the Labrecque Family are more than welcome!

Daytona Beach is a favorite vacation destination to enjoy NASCAR Racing, Bike Week, Spring Break, Black College Reunion, Summer vacation, Biketoberfest, the Turkey Rod Run classic car show, with other special events.

The area is well known for its beach area, which has sparkling, fine grained sand. Walking or bathing on the beach is free all year round. In some areas, driving is permitted on the beach for a small entrance fee.

Daytona Beach is a town with many personalities. It is at once the self-proclaimed "World's Most Famous Beach" and "World Center of Racing," a mecca for tattooed motorcyclists and pierced spring-breakers, and the home of a surprisingly good art museum. The city and developers spent millions of dollars to turn the somewhat seedy beachfront area (complete with the requisite T-shirt and souvenir shops) around the famous Main Street Pier into Ocean Walk Village, a redevelopment area of upscale shops, entertainment, and resort facilities.

The family reunion will be headquartered at the Wyndham Daytona Beach Ocean Walk  Resort. When you stay at Ocean Walk, located on a beautiful stretch of pedestrian-only beach and a part of the 80,000-square-foot Ocean Walk Village complex, it's like two vacations in one: a beachside retreat that's within walking distance of the most popular entertainment choices and activities Daytona has to offer.

You're just an elevator ride away from the three-level entertainment complex Ocean Walk Shoppes, which features well-known restaurants, theaters and specialty shops. This is a great resort for families. Besides four pools that include shallow and deep models -- one even has a water flume slide -- there's a lazy River and kiddle pool; kid's Interactive Aquatic Center with jungle jim; a robust Activities Department packed with kid-themed fun; Kid's Club play area, arts and crafts; an arcade with air hockey tables, pool table and other games; nine holes of indoor mini golf; and outside putting green. Grown-ups get to play, too: live music and karaoke at two resort bars including our Tiki Bar; cooking classes; fitness classes; and computer room for those needing their online fix. Prepare to be really pampered at their new full-service world-class Vacation Therapy Spa, offering up relaxing pleasures like massage, spa treatments, manicures and pedicures.

The fun continues a few blocks away at the famous Daytona Beach Boardwalk and Main street Pier...and across town at Daytona International Speedway. Ponce Inlet Lighthouse & Museum and Casements Center, a Rockefeller home, are historical treats. Drive 30 minutes to quaint New Smyrna, voted a top 100 U>S> Artist Community, or an hour to Mount Dora, known nationally for its excellent antique shopping and arts festival. Orlando's many theme parks are also just an hour away.

From Daytona Beach International Airport:
Upon exiting the airport property, go right onto International Speedway Blvd. ( also called Highway 92) Proceed about seven miles and cross the Halifax River via the Broadway Bridge. Once you have traveled approximately one mile, you will come to A1A or Atlantic Avenue. Go left onto Atlantic Avenue, drive another mile and you will see Wyndham Ocean Walk on your right which is the beach side.

From Tampa or Orlando:
Take I-4 eastbound to Highway 92 East. Follow 92 (International Speedway Blvd.) to Atlantic Avenue. (A1A) You will cross the Halifax River via the Broadway Bridge. Go left onto Atlantic Avenue, drive another mile and you will see Wyndham Ocean Walk on your right which is the beach side.

From Miami:
Take I-95 north to Highway 92 (International Speedway Blvd.) Follow 92 (International Speedway Blvd.) to Atlantic Avenue. (A1A) You will cross the Halifax River via the Broadway Bridge. Go left on Atlantic Avenue, drive another mile, and you will see Wyndham Ocean Walk Resort which is on the beach side.

From Jacksonville:
Take I-95 south to Highway 92 (International Speedway Blvd.) Follow 92 (International Speedway Blvd,) to Atlantic Avenue (A1A) You will cross the Halifax River via the Broadway Bridge. Go left on Atlantic Avenue, drive another mile and you will see Wyndham Ocean Walk Resort which is on the beach side.

NOTE: The Ocean Walk resort only allows 1 free parking space per unit. Additional cars have to park across the street at a pay parking lot ($16 per day).
